REVIEW TIME: Colourpop: Ultra Satin Lip

19 Mar

Are these worth your time and $$?

colour_pop_ultra_satin

What are they? A moussey, opaque liquid lipstick

Longevity: They wear fairly long, until you eat any vinegar, oil, excessive napkin wiping. Drink with a straw ladies!

Pigmentation: Really good!

Texture: This is also nice. It doesn’t feel as dry as the ultra mattes, but you’re sacrificing staying power.

Worth the buy? If you really really like the colors, I’d say go for it. From the ones I bought, I’m especially digging Toolips and Mess Around. I regret not buying Frick n Frack.

My Rating: B+

Here are the swatches:

colourpop_ultra_stain_ultra_matte

top left to right: trap, kapow, teeny tiny.                                                                                                   bottom left to right: marshmallow, mess around, too lips

Here is a look I did with Mess Around. I used M.A.C.’s Chestnut liner. I’d say that it’s much cooler then Chestnut and I may try Cork next time.

Here is Mess Around!

I really like the color. It’s fairly unique. I especially like how pigmented it is.

What do you guys think?

Holiday Makeup Challenge (11 of 30)

13 Dec

It’s another #SimpleSunday folks!

holidayMakeupTheresaBurden

30 Days of Holiday Makeup. Day 11 of 30 “Eggnog”

I’ve decided that the following Sunday will also be a “Simple Sunday” That’ll be three times …so i just made that a thing for this Holiday Challenge. 🙂

I should have put more freckles on my face! It was my first time applying faux freckles and I was being a little on the conservative side. It was fairly easy. I used a M.A.C. lip liner (Cork) and then blended with a concealer brush. I need to get a camera instead of just using my phone because I actually thing there are more freckles on my face then what appears on the screen.

There’s an easy trick to get sparkly liner…

HOW TO: SPARKLE LINER

What you’ll need:

  1. Sephora Jumbo Liner

2. Small dense angled liner brush

3. Your face

Step 1: Apply the liner to your lash line, not getting too close to the inner corner or too far off the outer corner.

Step 2: Use the angle liner brush to drag pigment closer to the inner corner of your eye as well as the outer corner making a wing

Step 3: If you want more sharp lines rub the liner brush on the pencil and then apply to create wing or to add more to inner corner.

The idea is to create sharp edges and clean tapered lines.

Sephora (and i’m sure other brands such as NYX) carries something that used to be a called a “Jumbo Liner”. Now they call it “Colorful Shadow and Liner”. Kind of a mouthful if you as me. Anywho, they still carry it, just by a different name. I love getting the shimmery ones or the ones with glitter because you can do so much with them. I’ve even used them as lip toppers!

The matte ones are great too. They especially come in handy if you want to look professional at a  business job or interview and you want to put on makeup without a brush. You can just apply straight on like a liner and blend with your finger. It GLIDES so nicely!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed today’s simple Sunday makeup look. Tomorrow will be a little more exciting in terms of color and the amount used. I hope that I have inspired you. If you decide to recreate any of these looks please tag me on instagram. i would love to see what you have created and for us to connect!

DRY LIP FIX…favorite beauty products

29 Oct
halloween 2013

Me as a Tiger for Halloween 2013

I realize Halloween is coming up (my favorite holiday) and it would be more appropriate to give tutorials for crazy halloween makeup looks, but I’ve decided to just talk to you all about the best makeup products for dry lips! I’m going to include lip scrubs, chappies, and glosses! OH MY! I’ll devote another blog post to all of my favorite lip primers, lipsticks, and lip liners.

Up first is

FRESH Sugar Lip Polish

My number one SCRUB!

lipscrub

Fresh Sugar Lip Polish $22.50

This is perfect for dry, peeling lips. You can use this about once a week or as needed. It’s a little pricey (at $22.50 for .6 oz), but you don’t need a lot so it lasts a long time. If you want to try this product, you can purchase it on its own or you can check out the holiday sets by FRESH. They are sold at Sephora.

Once you’ve done your scrub you need to moisturize! Also, stop licking those lips! If your lips are dry you need to grab that chappy (lip balm) and cover those lips. Every time you lick your lips you are making your lips DRYER!!! If your lips are super dry and cracking try to go with a lip balm that doesn’t have a scent or too much of a strong scent. If it has a strong scent to it, you’ll be more inclined to lick your lips, making your lips more dry.

The first lip product that I would like to recommend is the

SEPHORA: Super Nourishing Lip Balm

Sephora Nourishing Lip Balm $5

Sephora Nourishing Lip Balm $5

This seriously works on super dry lips. It does have a light vanilla scent to it, but it’s mild. The applicator is angled and shaped like lipstick so it’s very easy to apply. I try to either keep this one in my purse or on my bedside table.

If you don’t like applying from a stick, you might like…

JACK BLACK Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25

lipbalm

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm $7.50

My favorite flavor from Jack Black is Black Tea & Blackberry. My husband enjoys the grapefruit flavor. The great thing about this lip balm is that when it wears off your lips it leaves you with soft lips. Jack Black also has some great gift sets out! You can get 4 different (full size) lip balms for $25.

This next one is a big splurge, but it definitely helps with very dry lips. If you don’t care to wear glosses, you can just leave it on your lips overnight and by morning your lips will be ready to greet the day. On the other hand, if you love gloss then you will fawn over this one. It is extremely expensive, but a very small amount is needed so the product lasts a long time. And it now comes in a tinted version! I present to you…

HOURGLASS N° 28 Lip Treatment Oil

lipOil

Hourglass Lip Treatment Oil $42

On the subject of splurge I would like to talk about the best gloss in the history of glosses (this one is technically a laquer). Not only does the gloss last long, but it leaves your lips feeling more beautiful and soft then ever. If you choose one of their tinted laquers, the gloss will eventually fade but leave you with a tint of color. OK, are you ready?!

GIORGIO ARMANI Flash Lacquer

laquer

Giorgio Armani Flash Laquer $30

Something also great about this laquer/gloss is that it is not sticky! It just feels silky and lovely. My favorites are 102, 109, and 108. They are all very natural lip colors, but that’s what I prefer in a gloss. It comes in a wide range of colors with various tints. Please give this one a try! Last time I checked they were almost all sold out on Sephora.com. You can also get them straight from Armani’s website or at any department store that carries Armani makeup.

Here’s what these chappies look like on my lips!

Aramni Lip Laquer

One more thing! If your lips are still very dry try taking a vitamin B supplement! That’s all for now. What’s your favorite lip product? Tell me why you like it.  And let me know if this list was helpful!

I discovered one more!

Kari Gran Tinted Lip Whip

lipWhip

Kari Gran: Lip Whip $15

Not only is this super long lasting (great to put on before bed), but it leaves your lips SUPER SMOOTH! This is a great one for people that don’t prefer tubes. This one is also good to use if you have extremely chapped lips.
