Colourpop: Lippie Stix in Review

24 Jan

By now everyone reading this has gone online and bought themselves some Colourpop. On the off chance that you haven’t I’d like to give a review for you. It will broken down in Color Payoff, Longevity, Value, and Overall Feel and Reaction

I wasn’t completely convinced of all the hype so I purchased two colors for myself and two for a friend. 🙂 the two that I purchased for myself were tootsie and grunge. Both the Lippie and the matching pencil.

Color Payoff: These lipsticks are extremely pigmented. The colors are unique as well. The liner is very creamy and pigmented, but also a just a tad runny. you may need a second stiff liner so your face doesn’t look a mess.

Longevity: The lip color lasts fairly long, that is until you start eating, then you’ll notice some wear. It doesn’t flake off too, which is good. And when I applied it I first applied the lip pencil all over the lips, and then the lippie stix on top of that. This is a makeup artist trick, a lot of people are familiar with it now though because of youtube. 🙂

Value: I’d say the value is pretty high for these babies. $5 dollars each? They beat out any drug store lip product that i’ve tried and returned.

Yes, it can be tricky for the lipstick to not bleed a little, but there are ways around that. you could use another pencil (i find liar from urban decay to work well with tootsie. It’s just a tad darker. You can also apply several thin layers. In between each layer, blot with a lipstick until you have reached your desired effect.

Overall Feel/Reaction: I would definitely buy more (and I have). I also bought their ultramatte lippies. I’ll let you guys know what I think about those when they arrive. Knowing colourpop, it’ll be about a month. :/ But hey, it’s worth the wait.

Besides being a tad bleedy, i’d say that they are just a smidge drying. BUT i did put the entire liner all over my lip, so that may be the reason. Or maybe is the liner that is just drying. Thoughts on anyone who’s tried them?

Also, I’d like to say that Colourpop is great about showing their swatches and how they look on models of different skin color. Personally, I think grunge makes an excellent color for almost every skin tone, while tootsie I think works best for lighter skin tones.

I’ve posted some pictures of the lip with some recent instagram pictures. <<give me a follow if you’d like! i love following back fellow artists/beauty lovers. 🙂

Holiday Makeup Challenge (25 of 30)

27 Dec

I can’t believe we have only five more days of posting. Just to give you an idea of what’s to come for the week here are the names of the looks:

Monday: Chestnuts

Tuesday: Wintermint

Wednesday: Frosty (specially requested from a viewer….it’s EPIC!)

Thursday: Happy Newd Year (New and Nude combo)

Friday: For January first I’m doing the colors of the year. Which, spoiler alert, look like cotton candy together!

And now for today’s look! It’s a very day time appropriate look and i’m calling it Winterberry. It is definitely a great contrast of yesterdays and what is later in store for this week.

30 Days of Holiday Makeup Challenge. Day 25. “Winterberry”

I’m sorry if you’re disappointed in the eye makeup, but I really wanted the skin and lips to be the focus. I wanted the quintessential frosty/shimmer makeup to come through the face makeup rather then the skin. The photo catches it marginally. I’m sorry about the quality this was one of the pictures that I took with the $6 home depot clamp nights.

“Thee fall lip color” must live on into the winter because it’s gorgeous. Unfortunately guys this is two lip colors….Keep reading to find what which ones.

It was a simple day, but I promise you if you are longing for the more elaborate makeup looks you need to keep on the look out! This week is going to be epic!

Holiday Makeup Challenge (Day 13 of 30)

15 Dec

30 Days of Holiday Makeup. Day 13 of 30. “Santa Baby”

If you listen closely to the lyrics, you’ll realize that the lovely lady singing sounds just a little bit like a gold digger, asking Santa for a sable (fur coat), a yacht, deed to platinum mine, etc. I knew going into this look that I wanted to give myself yellow gold eye shadow. I paired the look with a a furry infinity scarf (from Marshalls) and a lovely chokerish necklace (a gift, but not from Santa!

Hues of gold and a deep brown red lip for a lady who likes yachts, sables, and diamond rings.

For the lips i wanted something luxurious and bold -because let’s face it, the girl singing those lyrics was pretty bold herself. Here’s a link to the song, Santa Baby, in case you want a listen!

Makeupgeek shadows – the foiled shadows have such a luxurious look to them!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you are enjoying this makeup challenge. I have been having a great time doing these makeup looks!

15 Nov

Channeling my inner Elsa! psst.. it’s a wig!

I asked you guys to vote and it was unanimous… I am doing  the 30 Days of Holiday Looks Makeup Challenge. I’ll be posting on here, my Instagram (@jobensgirl), and my facebook page. I’ve been making my list (of holiday looks) and checking it twice. OK, more then twice. So far I have come up with 29 out of the 30 looks! I don’t want to give any away by naming or describing any of them, but i wanted to ask you guys what look you want to see. Any particular lip colors? Eye makeup styles? I want to hear from you guys! I am totally open to any suggestions!I I will start posting December 3rd and have my last post on New Years Day (with the color of the year (2016), unless you guys want to see something else! This past year, the color of the year was Marsala. I’m thinking about doing a muted Marsala for the first post, on December 3rd, but I’ll let you guys weigh in on that too. 🙂 I’m looking forward to reading your comments!
