Primer is so important. When you paint a wall, you have to prime it first. Why do we do this? We prime so that the finished product looks good, smooth, even and lasts!
That’s me in the green, in case you were wondering, I was portraying Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy for a comic convention. Before I applied my green I covered my body in Ben Nye’s “clown white” Priming myself allowed for a smoother top coat. Everyone thought that I had been airbrushed or that it was possibly latex. Primer is such an important tool for makeup, whether you are covering half of your body with mehron body paint or just applying eye makeup.
Our eyelids have a lot of oil on them, so over the course of the day eye makeup will wear off. Why, you ask? The same reason oil based makeup remover removes makeup so well! By applying primer to the lid, it acts as a barrier by covering the oily lids and filling in the crevices of your eye lids so that the eye shadows stays put and there are no creases. As a makeup artist, I like to try a variety of primers. The ones that I have had the most luck with are:
*Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden and Original
*Two Faced Shadow Insurance
*Bare Minerals 5-in-1
All of these products can be found at Sephora or Ulta and the bare minerals primer can be found at bare minerals, sephora, and ulta.
